TUCSON, Ariz. – Competing on the road for its third-consecutive weekend, the Missouri State beach volleyball team dropped two tough matches to open the team's participation in the Wildcat Spring Challenge here Friday.
The Bears began day one of the tournament hosted by Arizona with a 4-1 loss to Colorado Mesa before falling, 5-0, to the tournament host.
Riley Drew and Addison Crider earned the Bears a win on the day in come-from-behind fashion. Playing in the fifth position, the pair defeated Colorado Mesa's Savannah Ott and Sydney Leffler, 14-21, 21-16, 15-13 to move their record to 10-5 on the season.
In the third flight against the Mavericks, Manuela Niemeyer and MacKenzie Steele also pushed their opponent to three sets, but ultimately came up short falling to Jada Hall and Gracyn Spresser 21-11, 18-21, 16-14.
Against the Wildcats, the Bears struggled to get the edge as well and ultimately dropped their second dual of the day. The losses move the team to 8-9 on the season.
The Bears continue their weekend with a 12 p.m. match against UTEP on Saturday before concluding the tournament with a matchup with Santa Clara at 2 p.m.
