Men's and women's swimming competes with Georgia Tech and West Florida

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens men's and women's swimming concluded the regular-season portion of their swimming schedule with a road trip to take on Georgia Tech and West Florida. The men's side fell short to Georgia Tech, 149-112, while the women's side managed a 190-104 victory over West Florida and a 191-103 loss to Georgia Tech. 

Danielle Melilli shined bright in the Peach State, competing in four events and claiming the top spot in all four. She began the afternoon swimming the final leg of the 200 yard medley relay in 22.07 and helping Queens begin the day with a victory. In her first individual event, she dashed to the top spot in the 50 yard free at 22.53. Shortly after in the 100 yard free, she took first yet again, coming in at 49.50. She concluded her day swimming the initial leg of the 200 yard free relay, touching the wall in 22.68 and helping her squad to yet another first-place finish.

Monica Gumina also put forth a strong performance for the Royals. She too hit the pool for four events and earned top finishes in three with a third-place finish in the other. She swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay, finishing the 50 yard back in 25.38. Shortly after, she competed individually in the 100 yard back and claimed first at 55.28. She finished with a similar time in the 100 yard fly, taking third after finishing with a time of 55.18. To conclude her day, she took the second leg of the 200 free relay and managed a time of 22.69 and finished with a third first-place finish. 

On the men's side, Matej Dusa was the team's leading point-scorer after accomplishing three top finishes and a second-place finish. He swam the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay and touched the wall at an impressive 19.27, helping the quartet to a second-place finish. He continued his success in the freestyle, dashing to first-place finishes in the 50 free (19.84) and the 100 free (43.75). Much like the women's squad, he too played a part in the team grabbing a first-place finish in the 200 free relay, swimming the first leg in 19.57.

Alex Kunert also impressed in the pool today with two top finishes and a second-place finish. He joined in on the success in the 200 medley relay by taking the third leg and hitting the pad at 21.43 to contribute to a second-place finish. In the 200 fly, Kunert finished above the rest at 1:45.67 for his first victory of the afternoon. Later in the meet he grabbed a second victory in the 100 yard fly at 47.83.

Winning both relays on the women's side and winning the free relay on the men's gives us excellent momentum going into the conference championships".
