Liberty finished in second place at the fourth annual TYR ’85 Invite, which concluded on Sunday at Liberty Natatorium.

Campbell won the team title with 2,721.50 points, with Liberty finishing second in 2,597.50. Saint Francis (Pa.) finished third with 1,533 points and California (Pa.) placed fourth with 907.

Notable

• For the meet as a whole, Liberty won 11 out of 13 individual events and all five relays that were contested.

• The Lady Flames’ received individual-event victories from nine different swimmers, with Grace Isaacs (400 IM, 200 fly) and Abbie Shaw (100 back, 100 free) winning two events each.

• Liberty freshman Eden Troxell dropped 20 seconds off of her lifetime best in the 1650 freestyle, winning in 16:54.63. Classmate Isabelle Gomez finished second in 17:10.31. IT was Troxell’s first collegiate event victory.

• Shaw won the 100 free by 0.16 over Campbell’s Colleen Renshaw (51.10 to 51.26).

• The closest finish came between Liberty’s Grace Isaacs (2:05.58) and Chloe Harris (2:05.71) for first place in the 200 fly. Liberty’s Lauren Wilson took third in 2:07.03 for a 1-2-3 Liberty finish.

• This was Campbell’s third straight TYR ’85 Invite title.

Historically Speaking

• Troxell’s 16:54.63 places her fifth all-time on Liberty’s top 10 performers list in the 1650. She swam 10:12.23 on the first 1000 yards, placing her sixth on Liberty’s 1000 free list.

• Gomez now ranks ninth in program history in the 1650 freestyle with her 17:10.31 tonight.

• Gardner’s 2:16.89 ranks eighth in program history in the 200 breaststroke.

Select Liberty athletes will compete at the 2022 Toyota U.S. Open, held Nov. 30 through Dec. 3 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. Liberty’s team will open the New Year with a dual meet at East Carolina, Jan. 7 in Greenville, N.C.
