The No.6 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team completed the Tampa Classic on Saturday by defeating No.11 Stetson 3-2 before falling 4-1 to No.2 Florida State.
GCU (6-2) went ahead early against Stetson, as graduate
Dana Roskic and redshirt freshman
Jessica Drake finished first on Court 4, with graduate
Cami Sanchez and senior
Mackenzie Harris right behind them with a win on Court 5.
Although Stetson took Court 1, junior
Krista Rowan and
Anaya Evans prevailed 21-15, 21-14 on Court 3 to win the dual for the Lopes.
Later, the Lopes fought Florida State, but ultimately suffered a 4-1 defeat, after only GCU juniors
Allanis Navas and
Sarah Dickson claimed their court in straight sets.
The Lopes will return to Los Angeles next weekend to compete against Cal Poly, UCLA, Loyola Marymount and Concordia-Irvine in the Battle for LA Invitational.
