In a two-day meet that featured last year’s Conference USA and CCSA champion teams, FIU earned a 234-214 win over Liberty, finishing Saturday at Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
Liberty Event Winners – Day Two
• Fr. Grace Shaw – 1000 freestyle (10:28.47)
• Jr. Chloe Harris – 100 butterfly (56.63)
• Jr. Abbie Shaw – 50 backstroke (26.13); 200 backstroke (2:02.98)
• So. Grace Isaacs – 400 IM (4:22.91)
Notable
• FIU led the meet 116-108 after day one and outscored the Lady Flams 118-106 today to provide the 234-214 final score. The Panthers won five individual events and both relays this morning, giving them 12 individual-event wins and three relay victories for the meet. Liberty claimed five event wins today, earning eight individual-event victories and one relay win on the weekend.
• 2022 C-USA Swimmer of the Year Christie Chue earned four wins for the Painthers, while four-time C-USA Diver of the Year Maha Gouda won all three diving events (platform, one-meter and three-meter).
• Liberty countered with three wins each from 2022 CCSA event champions Chloe Harris (50 fly, 100 fly, 200 fly) and Abbie Shaw (50 back, 100 back, 200 back).
• The Lady Flames earned the only 1-2-3 swimming finish of the meet, as Grace Shaw won the 1000 freestyle in 10:28.47, followed by teammates Eden Troxell (10:38.87) and Isabelle Gomez (10:45.00).
• The closest finish of today was the 100 IM, which Chue won by 0.16 second over Harris (57.80 to 57.96).
Historically Speaking
• The Lady Flames are now 14-12 all-time in dual meets held in the state of Florida. The last time Liberty competed in Florida was Jan. 4, 2020, sweeping FGCU, Tulane and Illinois State in a quad meet hosted by FGCU.
• Chloe Harris is now ranked third on Liberty’s all-time top 10 performers list in the 100 IM at 57.96, while Sydney Stricklin (59.07) is eighth.
• Meagan Tuohy moved into sixth place in program history in one-meter diving with her 240.68 score today, while Mary Herndon (233.55) is now eighth in the event.
• Herndon scored 241.73 in three-meter diving today, placing her seventh on the program’s all-time top 10 list in the event.
• Yesterday, Maddie Freece (8th – 157.80), Herndon (9th – 154.88) and Grace Gooding (10th – 154.80) all entered Liberty’s top 10 in platform diving.
