Queens Swimming Breaks Multiple Records en route to Victory

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - It was a day full of excitement for both the men's and women's swimming teams as they saw numerous records get broken en route to both teams earning victories in the 2022 Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy.

Queens got off to a flaming hot start right away as Sophia Lange's posted a record-breaking time of 16:16.97 in the 1650 freestyle. Her speedy time set not only a Fall Frenzy record, it also set the school record, previously set in 2019 (16:25.32). Additionally, the time would've placed 28 of 44 in last year's Division I championship and currently ranks as the 14th-fastest Division I time in that event.

The 28th event saw Alexander Bauch place first in the 200 backstroke with a DI B-cut time of 1:44.20.

Monica Gumina kept the ball rolling in the following event, taking the top spot in the 100 freestyle at 49.04, also posting a DI B-cut time.

One event later, Matej Dusa continued the success he's had all season, posting a first-place time of 42.88.

Annika Huber was the second Royal to set a record-breaking time on the day. Even more impressively, she did so twice in the same day, breaking the previously held record in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.97) twice on the final day. In the prelims, she set the new record dashing to a time of 2:13.91. In the finals she showed herself up, once again setting the record by posting a time of 2:13.18.

In the last individual event, Alex Kunert and Yannick Plasil finished first and second, respectively in the 200-yard butterfly, both Division I B-Cut times.

The day/frenzy concluded with the always exciting 400 freestyle relay. The women went first and would end the day with a victory, as the four-person squad of Monica Gumina, Danielle Melilli, Ryley Heck, and Sophia Lange posted a meet record-breaking time of 3:20.12.

The men were up next and followed suit, thanks to Alex Kunert, Matej Dusa, Daniel Meszaros, and Luke Erwee posting a Fall Frenzy record-breaking time of 2:55.31.

"The competition this weekend was amazing" said head coach Jeff Dugdale". We finished with two school records on the Women's side and many meet records. The team has a lot of pride in finishing Royal strong. A heart felt thank you to our many families and fans that came to experience the meet.
