Queens and Liberty Bring Home Swimmer and Diver of the Week

CCSA ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S SWIMMER AND DIVER OF THE WEEK

 

Charlotte, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – Queens University’s Monica Gumina collect’s her first Swimmer of the Week Honors in the CCSA. While Liberty’s Maddie Freece earned her first CCSA Diver of the Week honors, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Queens vs. Emory University 

  • First-place finish in 400-yard medley relay, swimming third leg (3:51.12)
  • First-place finish in 200-yard freestyle (1:54.18)
  • First-place finish in 100-yard butterfly (56.94)
  • First-place finish in 200-yard freestyle relay (2nd leg, 23.04)

Queens vs. Wingate

  • Second-place finish in 50-yard backstroke (26.66) 
  • First-place finish in 200-yard freestyle (1:51.99)
  • First-place finish in 800-yard freestyle relay (7:40.65

Queens swimming welcomed Wingate university and the reigning Division III champions, Emory, into the Levine Center over the weekend. Against Emory, Gumina, contributed to a top finish in the 400-medley relay, swam the top time in the 200-yard freestyle as well (1:54.18). The day was capped off with each of Queens' squads earning victories in the 200-freestyle relay. Monica Guminaand company swam to a time of 1:35.17. She followed up her Performance with another remarkable outing against Wingate.Gumina got off to a hot start with an impressive victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.99. In the final event of the evening, the 800-yard freestyle relay, Queens capped off the day with a pair of victories. Gumina and company bolted to a time of 7:40.65, 10 seconds ahead of the next finishing group.

CCSA Diver of the Week 

Maddie Freece, Liberty

Competing at East Carolina against ECU and Richmond (Diving only)

 

  • 1st place in One-meter diving (227.70)
  • 4th place in Three-meter diving (217.20)

 

Two-time CCSA Women’s Diver of the Year Maddie Freece opened her season in a diving-only meet at ECU. Competing against divers from ECU and Richmond, Freece won one-meter diving with a score of 227.70, edging ECU’s Flanary Patterson by 3.70 points. On three-meter, Freece took fourth place with 217.20 points. She led Liberty’s eight divers at the meet in most points scored on Saturday, totaling 444.90 between 12 total dives.
