KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Liberty leapfrogged James Madison after the third day of the CCSA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships to lead 1,006.5 to 910.0 (JMU) in the Allan Jones Aquatics Center in Knoxville, Tenn. The Flames claimed two event victories on Friday night featuring their sixth-straight 800-Yard Freestyle Relay title to begin the night. Abbie Shaw followed that up with her second consecutive 100-Yard Backstroke gold and the seventh consecutive event title for the program.

The Dukes came close to the top of the podium with Madison Cottrell finishing just behind Shaw and Angela Ritche finishing in third place of the 200-Butterfly to close out the night but JMU could not crack gold on day three. Queens' Danielle Melilli paced the top three 100-Yard Breaststroke finishers to B-cut qualifying times and earned gold. FGCU's Cam Kuriger turned in a gold-medal time of 1:59.16 in the 200-Yard Butterfly to help the Eagles maintain a hold of fourth place (612.0) ahead of UNC Asheville (609.0) as the top five teams with one day to go.

The 2023 edition marks the 16th championship for the CCSA in Women's Swimming and Diving and the fourth time the event is held at the University of Tennessee.


The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) is a progressive NCAA Division I conference dedicated to the enhancement of opportunities for students. The conference was founded in 2008 to provide a championship opportunity for Swimming and Diving student-athletes and extended that opportunity with the addition of Beach Volleyball in the summer of 2015. The league's footprint extends into several states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. The CCSA is dedicated to the student-athletes who compete in its championships and their success in the classroom, in the field of competition, and life after graduation.
