CCSA Announces Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week - Oct. 2

Charlotte, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – Liberty freshman Gianni Pitto (Lodi, Calif.) has been named the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week for meets contested the opening weekend of the 2018-19 season. In addition, Florida Gulf Coast sophomore Melissa Novak (Frederick, Md.) has been named the Women's Diver of the Week, the CCSA announced Tuesday.

Pitto helped Liberty to a 159-98 victory on Saturday at Campbell. She is the first Liberty swimmer to win three individual events in her collegiate debut, as she won the 100 breast (1:04.57), 200 breast (2:20.83) and 400 IM (4:28.95). Pitto won the 100 breaststroke by 2.0 seconds over the nearest competitor, while winning the 200 breaststroke by 4.49 seconds and the 400 IM by 8.15 seconds. She also swam the fastest second leg of anyone in the 200 medley relay, with a time of 29.75.

Novak finished second on the 3-meter board at Florida last weekend with a score of 290.77; which qualifies her for the 2019 Zone Championships. She also took home third place out of 10 competitors in the 1-meter dive with a score of 258.75.

Also nominated for Swimmer of the Week: Annie Sanchez (Campbell), Christina Elmgreen (Florida Gulf Coast), Anna Moers (Georgia Southern) and KaSandra Kaplan (Howard).

Also nominated for Diver of the Week: Sara Rogers (Georgia Southern).
