Incarnate Word Takes Early Lead After Day One of the 2019 CCSA Championships

Lynchburg, Va. (TheCCSA.com) – Last year's champion Incarnate Word finished in first-place after day one of competition at the 2019 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championship with 138 points. This year's event is being held at the Liberty Natatorium on the campus of Liberty University.

Florida Atlantic sits in second-place with 108 points, while Old Dominion is in a close third with 105 points, followed by New Jersey Institute of Technology at 93 points. Gardner-Webb is in fifth with 80 points, Mount Saint Mary's is sixth with 60 points and Howard finished seventh with 56 points.

In the first event of the meet, Incarnate Word's Vlad Chumak, Leonardo Sanchez, Beau Fusilier and Hector Ruvalcaba Cruz finished first in the 800-yard medley relay with a time of 6:33.79. Florida Atlantic finished in second with a time of 6:39.43, while Gardner-Webb narrowly fell to third at 6:39.48.

Gardner-Webb's team of Brady Fields, Jordan Mintz, Seggio Bernardina and Zach Dingfield claimed the second and last swimming event of the night in the 200-yard medley relay, with a final time of 1:28.01. They were followed by Incarnate Word, who took second with a time of 1:28.88. Old Dominion grabbed third at 1:29.41.

Incarnate Word's Dawson Martinez claimed first-place in the 3-meter dive with a score 335.55. Florida Atlantic's Michael Cannatelli finished in second with a score of 272.95, followed by Timmy Newton of Incarnate Word, who finished third at 266.50 points.

All of the day's results can be found here. The CCSA Championship will continue Thursday, February 21 at 10:00 a.m. with the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries. The event finals for day two will start at 6:00 p.m.
