TCU On Top! #1 Horned Frogs Capture Program's First @CCSA_Beach Championship

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - TCU was on a mission to capture the 2023 CCSA Beach Volleyball Championship on Saturday, April 29, at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala. The Horned Frogs earned the program's first championship banner by sweeping #4 Grand Canyon, 3-0, and getting revenge over the Lopes from Thursday's second round match.

The day began with a semifinal matchup that saw #1 TCU take down #3 LSU for the third time this season. The Horned Frogs won, 4-1, to earn their second consecutive trip to the championship final. TCU held all of the momentum from the jump as all five courts were in favor of the Frogs after the first set. LSU battled back to force three sets on Courts 1, 2 and 4. TCU went on to claim a straight-set win on Court 3 as Sutton MacTavish and Hailey Hamlett secured a 21-12, 21-18 win. Court 5 followed with Rochelle Scott and Hailey Brockett giving the Frogs a 2-0 lead. CCSA Pair of the Year Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno once again captured the match point in three sets, 21-17, 21-13, 15-9 at the top flight.

In the championship final, TCU earned straight-set victories on Courts 4, 5 and 3 to clinch the dual. With a 3-2 advantage after the first set on all five courts, the Horned Frogs' 4s were the first to secure a victory with a 21-7, 21-15, mark. All-Tournament Pair Rochelle Scott and Hailey Brockett followed just five minutes later to give TCU a 2-0 lead. The win also marked Scott's 100th career victory. Fellow All-Tournament Pair Sutton MacTavish and Hailey Hamlett earned a 22-20, 21-18, decision before their teammates stormed the duo on Court 3 to celebrate the league championship.

Having secured CCSA's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, the Horned Frogs find out their next opponent when the 2023 NCAA Beach Volleyball Selection Show airs Sunday at 11 AM ET on NCAA.com. No. 4, Florida State, No. 6 LSU and No. 7 Grand Canyon also have strong consideration for at-large selections and will see if their names are called to contend for a national championship in Gulf Shores, Ala., next week.


The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) is a progressive NCAA Division I conference dedicated to the enhancement of opportunities for students. The conference was founded in 2008 to provide a championship opportunity for Swimming and Diving student-athletes and extended that opportunity with the addition of Beach Volleyball in the summer of 2015.
