GCU's Rowan & Birch Named @CCSA_Beach Pair of the Week to Round Out Season's Weekly Awards

 


ATLANTA – Grand Canyon's Krista Rowan and Brooke Birch were named the final CCSA Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week winners for the 2023 season, the league office announced on Tuesday. The Lopes' duo completed the regular season with four victories on Court 4 and 5 against No. 9 California, No. 10 Stanford, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara to lead GCU on a 3-1 weekend.

Brooke Birch, Grand Canyon | Freshman | Costa Mesa, Calif.
- First Career CCSA Pair of the Week for Rowan & Birch pairing; second weekly award for the GCU program
- Posted a 4-0 weekend over No. 9 California, No. 10 Stanford, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara in Lopes' regular season finale 
- Won 21-13, 21-17 to earn a match point against the 10th-ranked Cardinal and a 21-14, 21-15 decision against No. 9 California 
- Claimed three-set decisions in their matches against Saint Mary's (21-18, 20-22, 15-7) and Santa Clara (21-13, 13-21, 15-11)
- Helped GCU to a 3-1 weekend and 23-6 overall record this season to prepare for their first CCSA Championship appearance in Huntsville, Ala. (April 27-29)

The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) is a progressive NCAA Division I conference dedicated to the enhancement of opportunities for students. The conference was founded in 2008 to provide a championship opportunity for Swimming and Diving student-athletes and extended that opportunity with the addition of Beach Volleyball in the summer of 2015. The league's footprint extends into several states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia. The CCSA is dedicated to the student-athletes who compete in its championships and their success in the classroom, in the field of competition, and life after graduation.
