2023 Preseason Honors


ATLANTA - TCU's Daniela Alvarez was named the Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, highlighting the 2023 CCSA Beach Volleyball Preseason All-Conference Team, announced Wednesday by the league office. The Horned Frogs earned a league-best three preseason selections as Sutton MacTavish and Tania Moreno were also featured on the preseason team. Florida State (Maddie Anderson and Paige Kalkhoff) and South Carolina (Kaeli Crews and Simone Priebe) earned two selections along with league newcomer Grand Canyon (Allison Hansen and Allanis Navas). LSU's Kylie DeBerg rounded out the 10-person team before the season begins on Feb. 23.


CCSA Preseason All-Conference Team
*Daniela Alvarez, TCU: One of the most decorated athletes in TCU program history, Alvarez returns to the Horned Frog lineup as the Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She was named the 2022 CCSA Player of the Year and AVCA All-American with a 29-6 record including a 14-6 record over ranked opponents last season.

*Maddie Anderson, Florida State: Anderson's second season landing as a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Conference Team was an All-Conference, All-Academic, and All-Tournament honoree in the 2022 season. She posted a 31-12 record in 2022 helping the Seminoles to their sixth straight CCSA Championship title.

Paige Kalkhoff, Florida State: An FIU transfer, Kalkhoff enters year one in the Florida State lineup after posting a 24-8 record in 2022. She holds a career mark of 49-13 and was an AVCA All-American Second Team honoree.

Allison Hansen, Grand Canyon: Hansen finished third at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships with Abbie Hughes to enter the 2023 season. In 2022, she broke the GCU single-season wins record with 28 individual wins and pair wins in a season with her partner Allanis Navas.

Allanis Navas, Grand Canyon: Navas partnered with Hansen to rewrite the single-season program record for victories with a 28-4 record in 2022. She finished the season as the second-ranked No. 2 pair in the nation with Allison Hansen

Kylie DeBerg, LSU: A 2022 All-Conference selection, DeBerg gives the Tigers reliable experience after she posted a 33-10 record last season. She won the AVCA Fall Pairs National Championship and USA Volleyball Women's Beach Volleyball Collegiate Championship prior to the 2023 season.

Kaeli Crews, South Carolina: Crews enjoyed a breakout season in 2022, posting an overall record of 24-8, playing at the No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 spots for the Gamecocks last season. Her 24 wins are tied for the eighth-most in a single season in program history.

Simone Priebe, South Carolina: Priebe enters the South Carolina lineup after four seasons with Pepperdine's Beach program, totaling 66 career wins and a total winning percentage of .712. She had a career year in 2022, going 26-7 at the No. 2 pairing and making the All-WCC First Team while earning Top Flight honors from the AVCA last season.

Sutton MacTavish, TCU: McTavish notched a 27-11 record playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. She boasted a 13-10 record against ranked opponents last season and was named to the 2022 CCSA All-Tournament Team with partner Kaylie McHugh.

Tania Moreno, TCU: Moreno combined with Preseason Player of the Year Daniela Alvarez to post a program-best 54-15 combined record after going 29-6 last season. She earned CCSA Pair of the Year with Alvarez, CCSA All-Conference Team honors, and both AVCA Top Flight and AVCA First Team All-America honors for the second time in her career in 2022.

For the seventh consecutive year, the CCSA took to social media to poll the fans for the conference preseason superlative award. Votes were cast on Facebook and Twitter for student-athletes across the league and Grand Canyon's Allanis Navas was named the Fan-Voted Preseason Player of the Year with 278 votes.


The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) is a progressive NCAA Division I conference dedicated to the enhancement of opportunities for students. The conference was founded in 2008 to provide a championship opportunity for Swimming and Diving student-athletes and extended that opportunity with the addition of Beach Volleyball in the summer of 2015. The league's footprint extends into several states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia. The CCSA is dedicated to the student-athletes who compete in its championships and their success in the classroom, in the field of competition, and life after graduation.
