FSU, LSU, FIU and Georgia State Sweep Pool Play; Earn Quarterfinal Byes

EMERSON, Ga. - The 2019 CCSA Beach Volleyball Championship kicked off on Friday afternoon with pool play. Three of the top four seeds swept through their pools, as #1 Florida State, #2 LSU and #3 FIU earned byes to the quartefinals. FSU and LSU were especially dominant as they only dropped one set between the two. Georgia State was the only upset of the day, as they took their pool by defeating #4 South Carolina and #9 Tulane.

The elimination round begins on Saturday at 9 AM ET, as College of Charleston squares off with Tulane and TCU tangles with UAB. The second round of elimination duals starts at 10:30 AM ET when FAU plays UNCW and South Carolina clashes with Southern Miss.

#8 College of Charleston Cougars (1-1) - Follow @CofCVolleyball
- The Cougars split their pool play matchups on Friday, defeating #12 Southern Miss before falling to top-seed FSU
- Charleston looks to keep their season alive when they square off with Tulane on Saturday morning at 9 AM in the elimination round

#6 FAU Owls (1-1) - Follow @FAUBEACHTeam
- The Owls also split their pool play matchups, taking down UAB in a sweep before falling to FIU, 3-2 in the second dual
- Sophomore sensations Mackenzie Morris & Erika Brok dropped just one set on Friday afternoon, as they went 2-0 in match play

#3 FIU Panthers (2-0) - Follow @FIUVolleyball 
- FIU swept their pool by defeating FAU and UAB. The Panthers now get a bye to the quarterfinal round
- All-Conference pair of Margherita Bianchin & Federica Frasca swept the day, as they went 2-0 and didn't drop a set

#1 Florida State Seminoles (2-0) - Follow @FSU_BeachVB
- The defending CCSA Champs began the championship with a statement, with back-to-back 5-0 wins over Charleston & UNCW
- None of the 'Noles' five pairs failed to drop a set on Friday evening. FSU gets a bye to the quarterfinal round

#5 Georgia State Panthers (2-0) - Follow @GSUBeachVB
- Georgia State swept through pool play, beating Tulane and upsetting South Carolina to gain the quarterfinal bye 
- GSU's best finish in the CCSA Championship came in 2016 when they advanced to the championship final against Florida State

#2 LSU Tigers (2-0) - Follow @LSUBeachVB
- Second seed LSU took back-to-back 5-0 decisions on Friday, sweeping UNCW in the morning and TCU in the afternoon to earn the quarterfinal bye
- Top pair and two-time CCSA Pair of the Year, Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss surrendered just 47 total points over four sets on Friday 

#4 South Carolina Gamecocks (1-1) - Follow @GamecockBeachVB
- The Gamecocks split their pool play action, beating Tulane in the first dual before falling to #5 Georgia State in the second
- Jess Vastine and Whitney Ballard were the only South Carolina pair not to drop a set in Friday action

#12 Southern Miss Golden Eagles (0-2) - Follow @SouthernMissVB
- CCSA newcomer, Southern Miss, dropped both of their decisions on Friday to Charleston and Florida State
- The Golden Eagles now face South Carolina in the elimination round at 10:30 am on Saturday

- TCU went 1-1 in pool play on Friday, beating UNCW 3-2 before falling to LSU 5-0 in the afternoon dual
