Weekend Recap: FIU, FAU & UAB Start Undefeated; LSU Tops Florida State

2019 CCSA Beach Volleyball Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - The 2019 CCSA Beach Volleyball season opened up last weekend, as 10 of the leagues 12 teams were in action. Three of the CCSA's top rated teams in #3 Florida State, #7 LSU and #10 FIU got off to great starts. LSU swept through the weekend at the Tallahassee Capitol Invite, picking up four top-20 wins, as well as the program's first-ever victory over Florida State. FSU captured top-10 wins over #6 Cal Poly and #8 South Carolina, as well as an additional top-20 win over #18 Tulane. FIU came away unscathed at the Stetson Spring Fling, as they took down #17 Stetson and #13 Georgia State. 

Twentieth ranked FAU swept through opening weekend to start 4-0 for the first time in program history. The Owls host the FAU Beach Burrow Bash this coming weekend and will see the likes of Florida State, LSU and South Carolina. UAB was the third was the fourth team to begin 4-0, as they swept the Blazer Beach Bash. They too will take part in the FAU Beach Burrow Bash this coming weekend.

College of Charleston Cougars (0-0) - Follow @CofCVolleyball
- Charleston had the first weekend of play off. They were one of two CCSA teams that had an off week this week
- The Cougars open up the 2019 campaign on March 1st when they participate at the North Florida invitational

#20 FAU Owls (4-0) - Follow @FAUBEACHTeam
- FAU opened the season with four-straight victories with wins over #19 TCU and North Florida. The Owls did not surrender a game all weekend
- The Owls 4-0 start is their first in program history. The No. 1 pair of Carly Scarbrough & Nicole Navarro dropped just one set all weekend

#10 FIU Panthers (4-0) - Follow @FIUVolleyball 
- FIU ripped off four straight victories to begin the season, including sweeps of #17 Stetson and #13 Georgia State
- The Panthers have the coming weekend off before heading out west for the highly competitive East Meets West Invitational

#3 Florida State Seminoles (4-1) - Follow @FSU_BeachVB
- The Seminoles went 4-1 last weekend, as they hosted the Tallahassee Capitol Invite. FSU captured wins over #6 Cal Poly, #8 South Carolina and #18 Tulane
- Florida State finished the weekend with 20-5 pairs record. No. 1 pair of Brooke Kuhlman and Payton Rund won four of five games this weekend

#13 Georgia State Panthers (0-0; 0-0) - Follow @GSUBeachVB
- Georgia State split their four contests last weekend to open up the year 2-2 with wins over Saint Leo and Eckerd
- The Panthers pay a visit to Fort Worth this weekend to take part in the Horned Frog Challenge, where they will meet the likes of #19 TCU, Missouri State, #18 Tulane and #16 Grand Canyon

#7 LSU Tigers (4-0) - Follow @LSUBeachVB
- LSU capped off an impressive opening weekend with three with four top-20 wins and three top-10 wins, including the program's first-ever win over Florida State
- The Preseason CCSA Pair of the Year of Kristen Nuss & Claire Coppola lived up to the billing last week, as they went 4-0 and dropped just one set all weekend

#9 South Carolina Gamecocks (1-3) - Follow @GamecockBeachVB
- The Gamecocks dropped three of four contests over the weekend at the Tallahassee Capitol Invite with their lone win coming against Tampa
- South Carolina turns around this weekend and head to Boca Raton to play in the FAU Beach Burrow Bash with teams such as LSU, Florida State and FAU

Southern Miss Golden Eagles (0-3) - Follow @SouthernMissVB
- Southern Miss dropped all three contests in their first-ever weekend of play at the Spring Hill Invite
- The Golden Eagles head down to the Big Easy this coming weekend for the New Orleans Invitational

#19 TCU Horned Frogs (2-2) - Follow @TCUBeachVB
- TCU opened up the year going 2-2 at the Paradise at the Burrow event in Boca Raton with wins over Webber and Florida Southern  
- The pairs of Haven Hill & Mandi Orellana and Taylor Bradley & Molly Scheel both notched 2-1 records over the weekend

#18 Tulane Green Wave (1-3) - Follow @GreenWaveBeach
- Tulane dropped three of four matches over the weekend, with all three losses coming to top-10 squads
- The Green Wave hosts Houston Baptist on Tuesday morning before embarking on a road trip to Fort Worth for the Horned Frog Challenge 

UAB Blazers (4-0) - Follow @UAB_BVB
- UAB is already halfway to its win total from 2018, as they had a perfect weekend going 4-0 at the Blazer Beach Bash
- Three different Blazer pairs went undefeated over the weekend, while as a team had a pairs record of 17-3

UNC Wilmington Seahawks (0-0) - Follow @UNCWBeachVB
- Charleston had the first weekend of play off. They were one of two CCSA teams that had an off week this week
