EMERSON, Ga. – The inaugural Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Beach Volleyball Championship is set to begin on Friday April, 22 at the Lakepoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga. Florida State will be the top seed following a 24-1 regular season record, the league announced on Sunday.
The Seminoles have been ranked in the top-three in the AVCA Beach Volleyball poll for most of the season and posted a 7-0 record against fellow CCSA school members over the course of the regular season. Florida State also picked up signature wins against then No. 3 UCLA and No. 2 Southern California. The Seminoles have also won four of the six CCSA Pair of the Week awards with top pair Julie Brown and Jace Pardon the only pair to repeat.
Georgia State earns the No. 2 seed in the CCSA Beach Volleyball Championship following the team's first 20-win season in program history. The Panthers are 22-7, including six wins against conference foes during the regular season. Georgia State has two wins against top-10 competition this season. FIU will be the third seed after posting an 11-7 record and a 5-3 mark against CCSA competition. FIU is led by top-pair Aren Cupp and Martyna Gluchowicz who finished the regular season with a 5-2 mark at the No. 1 flight.
LSU will be the No. 4 seed coming into the Championship with a 12-6 record and a No. 11 ranking in this week's DiG Magazine Poll. The Tigers closed the regular season at the Palmetto Invitational with a 5-0 sweep over fellow CCSA member South Carolina. The Gamecocks will be the No. 5 seed in the inaugural Championship as they sit with a 15-13 record entering today's final day of the regular season. South Carolina finished playing against CCSA competition this season with a 5-5 record.
Florida Atlantic, Tulane and UAB round out the eight teams competing in the inaugural Championship. The eight teams will be divided into two four-team pools to begin the Championship. The top-three teams in each pool will advance to the knockout phase, with each pool's winner getting a bye into the semifinals. The Championship Match on April, 24 will be broadcast live on ESPN3 at 1:00pm EST.
